In spring 2021, Worcester set aside $1 million to start the program, and later chose UMass Memorial's Community Healthlink (CHL) behavioral health center as the partner agency. For nearly a year, CHL has been designing the program, and is now targeting a June launch.

Babak Movahedi, chief of transplants at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Massachusetts, said he sees both sides of the argument. He said access to care unquestionably leads to unfairness in who gets saved. “I just don’t see how changing the allocation system would fix that, though,” he said.

Dr. Richard Ellison, an infectious disease expert at UMass Memorial Medical Center, said the fungus’ resistance to treatment has increased and they have seen a few cases in Worcester. However, he said it’s typically only seen in someone who has spent a long period of time in the hospital.

UMass Memorial Medical Center’s Dr. John Broach is warning people to be careful when shoveling the wet, heavy snow from Tuesday’s storm off their driveways and sidewalks. Broach said people may not realize shoveling can be a strenuous exercise.

“This is actually not a surprise to me what’s happening,” said Richard Ellison, MD, an infectious disease specialist at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. “Pretty much the entire world is saying that Covid has gone away. This remains a very contagious virus.”

The testing site on Front Street in Worcester run by UMass Memorial Health is among those set to close on March 31. The decision is due to a drop in demand for COVID-19 testing, the state DPH said.

“The Massachusetts bill is very similar to the bill in California and other states,” said Dr.

At UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, President Michael Gustafson, MD, said the system is increasing the number of employees on its financial counseling team to assist patients who may see a loss of coverage.

SOUTHBRIDGE, MA, March, 2 2023 – UMass Memorial Health – Harrington (UMHH) has opened a new Urgent Care Express at Harrington clinic at 164 South Street in Southbridge. The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed on weekends).
