Our Melanoma and Skin Cancer Services
Dermatologists manage and treat early-stage skin cancers. Care often starts by removing a suspicious mole, also known as taking a biopsy. In some cases, this is the only therapy that’s needed. For advanced cancers, including ones that extend past the skin’s surface or cover a broad area, additional skin cancer treatments are necessary.
At UMass Memorial, you have access to a level of care that’s not widely available in Central Massachusetts. Our team includes doctors specializing in different aspects of melanoma and skin cancer treatment. We work together to coordinate the services you need and help you achieve excellent results.
Uncommon Skin Cancer Treatments and Services
Additional services we offer include:
- Dermatopathology: These doctors evaluate biopsies using sophisticated techniques so we can confirm or rule out cancer with confidence.
- Mohs surgeons: We remove certain skin cancers layer by layer. This technique is precise and offers a very high cure rate.
- Dermatologic surgery and cutaneous oncology: Our team includes surgeons specializing in removing difficult-to-treat skin cancers.
- Plastic and reconstructive surgeons: We perform procedures to reduce the cosmetic impact of advanced cancers in highly visible areas such as your face.
- Medical oncologists: If the cancer is likely to come back, you may benefit from medical options, including immunotherapy and targeted therapy.
