Live, Work, Play
Discover all that Massachusetts has to offer.
Multi-Generational Opportunities
An area needs to be able to entertain, educate, employ and nurture an entire family unit. Central Massachusetts meets that challenge, commanding the attention of all ages for all stages of life. Some of the nation’s strongest school systems await the younger set, including an impressive list of public and private schools for primary and secondary education, as well as dozens of nationally recognized colleges and universities, including UMass Memorial Health’s academic partner UMass Chan Medical School. For spouses and significant others with their own career paths to walk, there are tremendous employment opportunities in diverse industries such as biotech, higher education, manufacturing, hospitality and health care, as well as many wonderful, accredited day care centers and child/family support services. The senior community also enjoys enrichment and care with several highly respected senior centers and living options.
A Diverse Culture
Central Massachusetts, a vibrant and culturally diverse collection of cities and towns, attracts local, regional and international professionals to live and thrive. Depending where you choose to call home, you’ll find diverse populations of Spanish, Portuguese, Western African, Chinese, Vietnamese, Haitian, Indian and Arabic descent, as well as many other cultures. This rich tapestry of nationalities is reflected and celebrated in the region’s culture, arts, food and entertainment.
Year-Round Enjoyment
Massachusetts isn’t shy when showing off her colors. From a ski resort’s snowy white peaks to lush greens of a spring or summer hike to the rich oranges and golds that keep fall “leaf peepers” returning, this commonwealth is truly four-season – along with football, hockey, basketball, baseball and soccer seasons year-round to satisfy devoted sports fans.
Spring
Whether your glimpse of yellow is from a golf course flag at Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton or the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill’s daffodil fields, the sunny season definitely springs into action here. A simple stroll might be just what you need – there are 27 state parks and forests in Massachusetts’ central region alone – but don’t discount numerous hiking trails that beckon in this temperate time. Fuel up on farm-to-fork ingredients from local farmer’s markets and libations from a growing number of vineyards and craft breweries, as outdoor patios start to open on a thriving dining scene that will nourish more than just your appetite.
Summer
Canoeing, kayaking, hiking – what’s your pleasure? There’s always an opportunity to stretch your legs and enjoy nature during the warmest season. Enjoy an urban playground at Worcester’s Canal District and Worcester Public Market, the go-to entertainment district for food establishments, live music and vibrant festivals. For sports fans, the boys of summer don’t disappoint. Worcester’s Polar Park is home to baseball’s Worcester Red Sox, the AAA team of the Boston Red Sox (affectionately called WooSox and cared for by its exclusive health care provider, UMass Memorial Health), and the Worcester Bravehearts at Hanover Insurance Park. If you crave the waves, you’re just over an hour from coastal towns along Massachusetts’ shores (Boston itself has stellar urban beaches).
Fall
As the vibrant foliage of native maple, beech, birch and oak takes centerstage, autumn is a brilliant feather in New England’s cap. Capture all of the season’s appeal with apple and pumpkin picking, hayrides, and cider donuts at any of a dozen orchards and farms, hikes along tree-lined trails, or shop for the upcoming holiday season at any of the local stores or walkable outdoor outlets. Paxton’s Moore State Park, Leominster State Park, and Old Sturbridge Village’s living history museum are just a few of the wonderful places to explore and experience New England weather at its best. And for avid sports enthusiasts, this is the perfect time of year to experience the New England Patriots, Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics in action at a local game or sports bar and witness the passion of our local fans!
Winter
Hit the slopes of Wachusett Mountain, Nashoba Valley Ski Area or Ski Ward, take a spin around Marlborough’s New England Sports Center, North America’s largest indoor ice-skating facility, or catch a minor league Worcester Railers hockey game. If snow or ice isn’t your cup of hot cocoa, instead spend chilly days cozied up with culture at world-renowned museums, concert halls and galleries, where you’ll find diverse performing groups and artists of every discipline. Worcester is proud home to the Worcester Art Museum, the DCU Center, The Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts and Mechanics Hall, which attract art exhibits, symphonies, off-Broadway shows, and more. Discover more unique experiences at Worcester’s EcoTarium museum, Clinton’s Museum of Russian Icons, Southbridge’s Cannery Music Hall, or Marlborough’s Apex Entertainment complex offering fun for the whole family.
