Impressive credentials include $400 million raised during tenure at Archdiocese

Worcester, Mass. – UMass Memorial Health Care, the third largest system in Massachusetts, announced today that it has hired Kathleen Driscoll as Sr. Vice President and Chief Philanthropy Officer. Ms. Driscoll will lead the system’s new fundraising arm which launched at the beginning of the year. She is currently the Secretary for Institutional Advancement at the Archdiocese of Boston. Ms. Driscoll will assume official duties at UMass Memorial on April 6 working out of the system’s headquarters in Worcester.

“Kathleen has been a force for change during her time helping the Church to meet its pastoral and social justice mission,” said Cardinal Sean Patrick O’Malley, Archbishop of the Diocese of Boston.  “She has helped to reshape the way we raise the much-needed funds to support our parishes, schools and ministries.  We wish her great success as she embarks on her new position and offer our prayers of gratitude for all she does for the people of God”.

During her tenure with the Archdiocese of Boston, she was a member of the Cardinal’s Cabinet and Steering Committee and led the first capital campaign in 17 years. Ms. Driscoll led the strategic implementation of a more advanced and sustainable fund-raising initiative, which benefited parishes, schools and the central ministries.  She started a new shared service development model, Boston Catholic Development Services, (BCDS) which annually raises over $23M.

“Kathleen has an impressive background with extensive management and leadership experience in fundraising, marketing, communications and operations,” said Eric Dickson, MD, president and CEO of UMass Memorial Health Care. “The newly established office of philanthropy gives us the opportunity to concentrate our fundraising efforts on the important work of our clinical care system while extending the UMass Memorial story to the donor community. We are excited to have a leader with Kathleen’s expertise to lead our team and spearhead our much-needed fundraising efforts.”

Ms. Driscoll also led the Campaign for Catholic Schools, which has raised more than $100 million for the benefit of Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Boston. She played a leadership role in the planning and development of three new Catholic elementary schools, which involved creating new governance structures, academic curriculum, recruiting school leadership and overseeing needed building renovations.

“I have been privileged to work for great organizations with important missions that provide services and support benefiting the individual and the community at large,” Ms. Driscoll said. “This opportunity continues that tradition and I look forward to sharing the impressive story of the lifesaving and essential mission of UMass Memorial with the kind and generous donor communities in Massachusetts and New England.”

Ms. Driscoll began her career in New York at Benton & Bowles and then joined McCaffrey and McCall. She is a graduate of Boston College, with a BA in Education and holds an MA in Education from the College of New Rochelle. She and her husband Kevin are the proud parents of 6 children.
