Comprehensive Evaluations

Hydrocephalus and CSF flow care starts with an accurate diagnosis. After performing a neurologic evaluation, we arrange additional exams to help us pinpoint the source of the issue. You have access to advanced investigations, such as MRIs and intracranial pressure monitoring.

Surgical Treatments

Surgery is usually necessary to restore CSF flow, prevent fluid buildups or repair leaks. Your care may include: 

• Shunt (most common): Neurosurgeons place a small, flexible tube with a valve in the brain. The tube allows excess fluid to drain into another body area, where it gets absorbed.
• Endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV): We create a small opening in a chamber of the brain (ventricle) to help the body clear CSF. ETV may be right for you if you cannot have a shunt or if a shunt is not successful.
