Endoluminal Stenting for Large Bowel Obstruction

Endoluminal stenting is a minimally invasive approach to treating large bowel obstructions. In this procedure, a self-expanding wire mesh tube is placed at the site of a blockage in the large bowel, holding open the bowel and alleviating the obstruction. Endoluminal stents:

• Can be a bridge to surgery, alleviating the immediate blockage while helping the patient delay the need for more significant surgery
• Are used as a palliative option for patients with advanced cancer
• Help patients avoid colostomy
