High-Risk Pancreas Clinic
Pancreatic Cancer
Pancreatic Cancer
If you have a family history of pancreatic cancer, you want to know if you are at risk.
Since this type of cancer may occur without warning signs or symptoms, early screening and detection are important for the best possible result.
The High-Risk Pancreas Clinic at UMass Memorial Medical Center offers the following for those at moderate- or high-risk for pancreatic cancers:
- Risk assessment – Assessments are completed by a surgical oncologist, gastroenterologist (specialist in digestive disorders) and genetic counselor. During the assessment, members of the team review personal and family history to determine the likelihood of developing pancreatic cancer.
- Screening – The screening process includes endoscopic studies and radiology testing for early detection of pancreatic changes that might be cancerous or precancerous.
- Genetic counseling – After reviewing family and personal history, our genetic counselor will consider possible genetic syndromes that may be associated, and if indicated, offers genetic testing.
- Ongoing surveillance – A plan will be developed for regular monitoring.
