Physical Therapy Plus

Our occupational therapists will help you gain independence in daily activities that you need and want to be able to do such as self-care, work, household tasks, and hobbies with a special emphasis on preventing injury and disability. They will utilize customized treatments to get you moving in the right direction toward improved health, function, and independence in daily living activities.

What is hand therapy?              

Hand therapy is a specialty area in occupational therapy, which involves treatment of the arm and hand. Some of the diagnoses we treat include carpal tunnel, fractures, tendon and nerve injuries, tendonitis, arthritis, joint replacements, post-surgical conditions, stroke/ neurological related weakness, and coordination problems.

What can a hand therapist do for me?

An occupational therapist who specializes in hand therapy can help you with exercises, activities and treatments to improve function, flexibility, sensation, and strength; as well as reducing pain and edema. Some of the treatments we use include hot packs/paraffin wax, stretching, strengthening, activity modification, custom fabricated splints, scar management, ultrasound, and functional task re-training. Our hand therapy program is under the direction of a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT).

What is neurologic rehabilitation? 

Neurologic rehabilitation incorporates occupational, physical and speech therapy to improve: functional mobility, walking, activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, cooking), cognition, speech and swallowing.  We see people with many neurological diagnoses including the following:

  • Stroke - Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Spinal Cord Injury - Multiple Sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s Disease - ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease)
  • Brain and Spinal Tumors - Guillain-Barre Syndrome
  • Cerebral Palsy - Muscular Dystrophy

What can an occupational therapist/neurologic specialist do for me?

  • Custom Fabricated Orthotics
  • Functional Electrical Stimulation
  • Exercises and functional tasks to improve performance in everyday activities
  • Training in adaptive equipment to enhance activities of daily living
