Our therapists provide specialized services to help children and adults improve strength and function and decrease pain. This therapy is available at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, UMass Memorial Health – HealthAlliance Clinton Hospital and UMass Memorial Health – Harrington.

Led by a certified hand therapist, our team helps you manage any condition or injury that affects your arms, hands and shoulders, including:

• Amputation
• Arthritis
• Coordination, fine motor skills
• Carpal tunnel syndrome
• Hand injuries
• Hand tendonitis and other soft tissue injuries
• Neurological conditions, including stroke and Parkinson’s disease
• Previous arm or hand surgery
• Swelling from fluid retention or lymphedema

Hand Therapy Treatments We Provide

Your hand therapy plan may include:

• Activity modification, including training for daily tasks
• Desensitization therapy for nerve issues and pain
• Lymphedema management
• Management of wounds and scar tissue
• Sensory reeducation for managing sensory issues
• Stretching and strengthening
• Therapeutic massage and paraffin wax treatment
• Ultrasound therapy 

Custom Hand Splints 

Our hand therapists make custom splints to protect or position your hand’s joints or soft tissue. Splints may be beneficial for people with:

• Arthritis
• Hand fractures or previous surgery
• Hand function difficulties
• Repetitive motion conditions
