Safety Tips for Bathing Your Baby

Decide where you are most comfortable bathing your baby and gather your supplies ahead of time. You will need towels, washcloths, shampoo/body wash, diapers, and clothes. Use the tips below to help keep your baby safe.

Bathing Your Newborn

Until your newborn's umbilical cord falls off, sponge baths are the best way to bathe your baby. Gather supplies ahead of time. Bathe your newborn every 2 to 3 days, using the steps below as a guide. You can wash the diaper area more frequently as needed to keep the baby clean.

Myomectomy

Myomectomy is a surgical procedure to remove uterine fibroids. This procedure may preserve your uterus and your ability to have children.

D and C

Your healthcare provider has recommended you have a dilation and curettage. This common procedure helps your healthcare provider learn more about problems inside your uterus or is done to treat a miscarriage.

LEEP

Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure is an effective outpatient treatment for abnormal cell growth. A fine wire loop with a special high-frequency current allows your healthcare provider to precisely remove the abnormal tissue from your cervix.

Treating Group B Strep

Treatment includes IV antibiotics (medicines that help stop infections). If complications occur, other specialized treatments may be needed. Early treatment gives the best chance of a happy outcome.

What Is Group B Strep?

In rare cases, a woman who has group B strep can infect her baby during the birth. Infection can cause serious illness in the newborn.

Recognizing Labor

You'll start to feel strong contractions. That's when the muscles of your uterus tighten up to help push your baby out during birth.

Quitting Smoking During Pregnancy

Every cigarette you don't smoke is a benefit to you and your baby. Deciding not to smoke can be a tough choice, but you can change. Even if you've tried before, don't give up.
