Bleeding Disorders We Treat

Bleeding disorders are often inherited and occur when certain blood proteins (clotting factors) do not function as they should. This can lead to bleeding that won’t stop or blood clots that cause blockages.

In addition to hemophilia, we care for a broad range of bleeding disorders, including:

Our Hemophilia Treatment Center Services

The New England Hemophilia Center uses a team approach to optimize treatment and outcomes. Renowned blood disorder experts (hematologists) guide your care. You may also receive services from a specially trained nurse, social worker, pharmacist and physical therapist.

Personalized Treatments

Hemophilia and bleeding disorder treatments often include medications. If you experience a bleed, giving yourself an infusion of clotting factors can help you avoid hospitalization. We explain how to take care of yourself and are available between appointments to answer questions.

Specialty Pharmacy

Our accredited specialty pharmacy makes it easier to get the clotting factors and medications you need to feel your best. We provide fast, convenient pick-up and delivery services. This offering ensures you have prompt access to therapies even if your needs change.

Consultations With Other Providers

We collaborate with your other UMass Memorial Health specialists to ensure safe procedures for other medical issues. Our team discusses the potential risks and how to manage bleeds if they occur. We work directly with other providers, so your focus can remain on you.

Living with a bleeding disorder can bring challenges to your life. It also requires ongoing care, which can be difficult to fit into your busy schedule. Our team helps make your life a little easier with assistance from social workers. Whether you need emotional support, guidance with insurance, transportation assistance or referrals to community resources — we are here for you.
