Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) are both designed to help people manage stress and improve their mental health through mindfulness practices like meditation, body scans, and gentle yoga.
About MBSR
MBSR helps individuals reduce stress by practicing mindfulness and developing a healthier, more balanced response to challenges in all areas of their lives.
Using knowledge of the mind-body connection, the program focuses on changing how we approach stressful or difficult situations.
Participants develop awareness of these situations and feelings and investigate their perceptions of them.
About MBCT
MBCT builds on the curriculum of MBSR to help individuals with a history of depression, anxiety or other mood disorders.
Participants learn to recognize early signs of a relapse, manage symptoms and prevent future episodes.
The program focuses on breaking the negative thinking patterns common in depression and other mood disorders.
Structure of MBCT and MBSR
Both MBCT and MBSR have a similar structure:
An 8-week course: designed to build mindfulness skills progressively
An all-day retreat: dedicated to deepening practice and reflection
Class components: interactive lessons on mindfulness, formal and informal practices, and mindful movement
Group discussions: collaborative exploration of experiences and insights
Daily assignments to integrate mindfulness into everyday life
Determining what program best meets your needs is very specific to a person’s situation and we are happy to help you decide what is right for you.
