The Cystic Fibrosis Center at UMass Memorial delivers the best available treatments for cystic fibrosis in adults. Our comprehensive approach includes prevention and management of complications, including:

At UMass Memorial, we take a whole-person approach to cystic fibrosis treatment. In addition to lung care, you will receive services from specialists and individualized support. You will also have easy access to our expert team between appointments, including evenings and weekends.

Lung Care

Pulmonologists perform detailed assessments that explore your symptoms and treatment response. We provide lung function testing and other advanced assessments, if necessary. Our experienced respiratory therapists use a variety of techniques to help you clear your lungs, which lowers the risk of infections.  

Specialist and Ancillary Services

Our team includes pharmacists who coordinate prescriptions. A dietitian optimizes patients’ nutrition. Gastroenterologists provide additional therapies for people with pancreatic and digestive issues. Endocrinologists take an active role in helping patients with diabetes. And psychologists provide mental health services. These are some of the many providers we work with.

Social Worker Support

Social workers help navigate practical challenges that come with having cystic fibrosis. Whether it's insurance, disability forms or community-based resources, we will connect you with the services you need. We direct patient and their loved ones to support groups where you can share experiences with people who understand what you're going through.  

Access to Care Between Appointments

Cystic fibrosis symptom flare-ups (exacerbations) and complications are common and we are always available to assist you. Some issues can be managed through myChart messages or virtual visits. For more concerning matters, call our office. If it’s an evening or weekend, call the hospital at 508-334-1000 and ask for the on-call adult pulmonary fellow.
