What Is Robotic Urologic Surgery?

Robotic urologic surgery is a minimally invasive alternative to open surgery. Compared to traditional surgery, which requires large incisions, robotic surgery uses tiny incisions. There’s less damage to healthy tissue, nerves and other structures, which lowers the risk of urinary and sexual side effects. 

During a robotic procedure, your surgeon uses a computer console and a 3D camera to control several robotic arms that hold small surgical instruments. This technology allows the surgeon to operate with superior precision and visibility.

Nerve-Sparing Prostatectomy

This cancer treatment removes the prostate while preserving nearby nerves. It eliminates the cancer while reducing the risk of erectile dysfunction and urinary incontinence.

Complex Reconstructive Procedures

We repair or rebuild structures in the urinary tract, including the bladder, urethra or kidneys. Reconstructive procedures restore function after a urethral obstruction or cancer affecting the prostate, bladder or kidney.

Surgeons remove lymph nodes from the space behind the abdominal cavity (retroperitoneum). We use retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND) to prevent and treat the spread of certain genitourinary cancers.
