Our services and expertise help protect people in our community from poison, environmental toxins and other harmful substances.
UMass Memorial Excellence in Toxicology and Poison Care
Medical Toxicology Research
In partnership with UMass Chan Medical School, we participate in prominent research studies that are improving poison care and outcomes. Our interests include using technology to advance the field. Efforts include smart pills that monitor opioid use and wearable biosensors that detect cocaine in a person’s body.
Leadership in Medical Education
Our medical toxicologists are training the next generation of experts through medical education programs. We teach residents and fellows about the latest care methods and how to achieve excellent results. Only programs like ours that successfully treat a high volume of patients maintain this honor. Some of our faculty have won multiple awards for excellence in toxicology education.
Protecting Our Community
Our experts are involved in efforts to help lower the impact of poisoning and toxin exposure. We are part of the UMass Chan Overdose Prevention Fund, which is making strides toward eliminating drug overdoses. We also partner with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to learn more about driving under the influence of drugs.
