What is toxicology? It’s the study of (and care of people suffering from) the harmful effects of chemicals on living creatures.
UMass Memorial Medical Center has an expert group of specialists in Medical Toxicology, a field dedicated to the evaluation and treatment of poisoned and envenomated patients. This includes individuals who have overdosed or are experiencing adverse effects from medications, as well as those who have been exposed to occupational and environmental toxins.
UMass Memorial Medical Center has a medical toxicology specialist available for physician consultation 24/7. Our staff assist physicians in the management of adults and children who are experiencing medication interactions or overdoses, as well as patients who have been exposed to chemicals, heavy metals, or plant and animal toxins.
UMass Memorial Medical Center also provides outpatient evaluations for suspected exposures to environmental and occupational toxins, and for assistance with interpretation of toxicology testing.
