Tribute and Memorial Gifts
A tribute or a memorial gift to UMass Memorial Health is a great way to honor or remember a family member or show your gratitude for the support you or a family member received form caregivers at UMass Memorial Health. Call 774-443-GIVE to share the name and address of the person you would like us to notify for tribute or memorial gifts. If you would like to direct friends and family to make gifts to UMass Memorial Health in lieu of flowers, the following is suggested wording:

Planned Giving
You may choose to make a gift to honor or remember a family member or friend, to thank a caregiver or to mark a special occasion. If you choose to make tribute or memorialize someone with your gift, please note the name of the person(s) you are honoring, and if possible provide the name and address of the person(s) you would like us to notify. Gift from a Donor Advised Fund
UMass Memorial Health gratefully welcomes charitable support through donor advised funds (“DAF”), which are often managed by financial services firms (e.g., Fidelity, Vanguard, Schwab, etc.) or non-profit community foundations (e.g., the Boston Foundation). If you’d like to contribute to UMass Memorial, you may direct your DAF administrator to send your distribution to:

Matching Gifts
Many employers, both large and small, offer Matching Gift Programs that could double the impact of your donation. Some will even match to retirees. Check your employer’s program and requirements through your company's human resources office.
Gift of Securities
You may make a gift to UMass Memorial Health by transferring stock or shares of a mutual fund. You'll receive tax credit for the full current market value of your stock on the date of transfer. If you have held the stock for more than one year, no capital gains will be paid by you, and the full market value can be counted as a charitable gift for income tax purposes. Gift from an IRA
A direct transfer from your IRA to UMass Memorial can be a way to make a tax-wise gift while supporting the mission of UMass Memorial Health. A qualified charitable distribution will count towards your required annual IRA minimum distribution and be excluded from your gross income. To qualify for these benefits:
- You must be age 70 ½ or older at the time of the gift
- Your gift must be made directly from your IRA to UMass Memorial Health (Tax ID 04-3358566)
Gifts Through Your Estate
By including UMass Memorial Health in your estate plans, you have a profound impact for generations to come and inspire others with your legacy of generosity. Naming UMass Memorial in your will or trust is a simple and flexible way to make a deferred gift that reflects your enduring values and philanthropic priorities. Through your estate plans, you can make a gift of a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder of your estate once all of your other distributions have been fulfilled as you wish. You can make a planned gift to UMass Memorial in many ways, including the options outlined below:
- Bequests – You may designate a gift of cash, securities, real estate or personal property through your will or trust to UMass Memorial.
- Life Insurance – You can name UMass Memorial as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy.
- Retirement Plans – Retirement plan assets often come with estate and income taxes that leave little left over for heirs. However, by designating UMass Memorial as a remainder beneficiary of your retirement account, you can support meaningful work while minimizing your family’s tax burden. A retirement gift plan is simple to make: Simply add UMass Memorial to your “beneficiary designation” information on file with your retirement plan administrator at any time.
