Facial Recognition Program

UMass Memorial Health is committed to providing you with the highest quality of care, and your safety and experience is our top priority. That’s why we’re introducing Imprivata Patient Access, a new, secure and faster way to check in.

Imprivata Patient Access uses facial recognition to identify patients quickly at the doctor’s office or hospital. This helps make sure we know exactly who you are so you can receive the correct care. It also helps expedite your check-in and improves your overall experience.

We are currently piloting Imprivata Patient Access at two of our UMass Memorial Health – HealthAlliance-Clinton locations:

• Simonds-Sinon Regional Cancer Center, 275 Nichols Rd, Fitchburg, MA 01420 (starting Tuesday, January 28, 2025)
• Urgent Care Leominster, 510 North Main St., Leominster, MA 01453 (starting Tuesday, February 4, 2025)

How it Works

Easy sign-up process

Staff will snap a photo of your face, which is used only for your identification. During sign up, it’s best to have a neutral expression on your face and to remove any masks, hats or glasses.

For return visits

When you come back, you’ll just need to look at the camera, and you will be quickly checked in. You can keep your masks, hats and glasses on.

Why are we taking your photo?

• Enhanced safety: Your photo helps us confirm your identity instantly, ensuring staff has access to your correct medical records. This helps make sure you receive the right care.
• Faster check-ins: With facial recognition, check-ins are quick and easy, taking only seconds. This saves you time and makes your visits more convenient.
• Protection from identity theft and fraud: Facial recognition is designed to accurately identify people, helping to expose any impersonation attempts.
• Privacy: Taking your photo reduces the need for you to share personal information aloud, like your Social Security number or address. This protects your privacy and keeps your personal information more secure.
• Convenience: Once enrolled, your record can be accessed instantly at any participating facility.
