Outpatient Care for Mental Health Disorders in Central Massachusetts and Beyond

When you have a mental health disorder or unexpected life challenge, you need help that’s easily accessible and compassionate. At UMass Memorial Health, our psychiatric services include support for immediate (acute) concerns, as well as chronic mental health disorders. Outpatient appointments take place in an office, hospital or clinical setting. We also offer telehealth services to accommodate busy schedules.

Outpatient Mental Health Services We Offer

We offer a full range of outpatient mental health services dedicated to helping you get better.

Psychiatric Evaluations

A psychiatric evaluation helps your care team make a diagnosis and develop a personalized treatment plan.

• During these assessments, a care team member may review:
• Emotional, behavioral or developmental problems
• Environmental factors, such as home, work and school life
• Family history of mental health disorders
• Problems sleeping, eating, concentrating or using substances

Individual and Group Therapy

Psychotherapy (talk therapy) allows you or a loved one to discuss mental health issues and find ways to manage them.

Two of the more common psychotherapies we offer are:

• Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to change negative thinking patterns and improve behaviors
• Dialectal behavior therapy (DBT) to manage and regulate emotions

We offer all types of psychotherapy, including:

• Couples therapy for those seeking to improve their relationship, trust and communication
• Family therapy to improve relationships, communication and interactions
• Group therapy to share experiences and helpful strategies with other people experiencing similar issues
• Individual therapy to discuss issues one-on-one with a mental health specialist

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) provides a higher level of outpatient care for people experiencing serious mental health crises. You attend a structured program five days a week, receiving intensive therapies from a team of providers. You go home each night.
