Information on Milford Regional’s Corporate Affiliation with UMass Memorial Health 

After signing a letter of intent and working on a potential corporate affiliation since September 2023, Milford Regional Medical Center, inclusive of Milford Regional Physician Group, became part of the UMass Memorial Health system on October 1, 2024. Milford Regional Medical Center’s name is now officially UMass Memorial Health – Milford Regional Medical Center.

UMass Memorial Health and Milford Regional have a longstanding partnership that began in 1991 when Milford Regional Medical Center became the first hospital to clinically affiliate with UMass Memorial Medical Center. Since then, many additional clinical and educational programs have been created to bolster the level of care offered to the greater Milford community.

The following frequently asked questions may be helpful in providing more context for the corporate affiliation between Milford Regional and UMass Memorial Health. 

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this mean UMass Memorial Health – Milford Regional Medical Center is closing?

No. UMass Memorial Health – Milford Regional Medical Center is not closing, and our mission remains to provide exceptional health care service to our community with dignity, compassion and respect. It is important to note that both UMass Memorial Health – Milford Regional Medical Center and Milford Regional Physician Group continue to exist as corporations.

What is the new name of the hospital?

The name of the medical center has been changed to UMass Memorial Health – Milford Regional Medical Center to be consistent with other UMass Memorial Health member organizations. Our website—www.milfordregional.org will include the new name and branding of the UMass Memorial Health system. 

I receive care frequently at Milford Regional Medical Center. Will this impact my care, or will I have to travel to Worcester for the services I currently receive locally?

Your care will not be impacted. One of the aspects of the affiliation agreement is to preserve UMass Memorial Health – Milford Regional Medical Center as an acute care hospital offering inpatient and outpatient services, ensuring access to high quality, local care for the Milford community. Over time, this affiliation will provide enhancements to the breadth of, and access to, our high-quality health care services.

What changes will I see at my next visit to Milford Regional?

In addition to our rebranded website, you will begin to see gradual signage changes at the hospital located at 14 Prospect Street in Milford, and other visible cues related to the new name. The same high-quality services and customized patient experience will remain.

How does this impact the relationship Milford Regional has with its other affiliates, such as Dana Farber Brigham Cancer Center and Boston Children’s Hospital?

The clinical relationships Milford Regional has with other academic medical centers, including Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital, will not change as a result of the corporate affiliation.  

Does this mean my doctors are changing, or will I have to find new doctors?

There will be no change to your existing relationship with your doctor. 

Will this impact my medical records?

There will be no impact to your medical records.

My insurance currently covers my visits at Milford Regional Medical Center. Will the new affiliation with UMass Memorial Health have any impact on my insurance?

There will be no impact to your insurance coverage.

How does this impact billing for medical services previously received at Milford Regional?

There will be no impact to patient billing for medical services.
