FaCES Clinic

As a foster parent, take comfort in knowing that your child’s health and well-being are cared for by the FaCES (Foster Children Evaluation Services) Clinic. The clinic opened in 2003 to provide timely, high-quality health care evaluations for children in foster care in the Worcester area. Thanks to the collaboration between our Division of General Pediatrics and the Worcester’s Department of Children and Families, foster health care is more coordinated.

FaCES Clinic Services

Our experts provide the following services:

  • Initial evaluations for children up to age 18 within seven days of placement
  • Review of medications, allergies, chronic illnesses and any urgent medical issues
  • Update of immunizations
  • Thorough examinations within 30 days of placement
  • Developmental and mental health screenings: Children under age three are referred to local early intervention programs. Children over three are referred for appropriate mental health care at UMass Memorial or in the community.

All information, including previous medical information and immunization records, is kept at the clinic. A copy is sent to the child's primary care physician who will monitor the child's health while in foster care. If a child is moved to another home, the clinic will provide ongoing access to the medical history and will help obtain the record of health care services.
