Pediatric Ear, Nose, and Throat and Hearing Loss

If your child has a disorder of the ear, nose and throat, he/she can benefit from specialized diagnosis and treatment at the UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center.

Our pediatric ear, nose, and throat specialists – called pediatric ENTs – offer your child the latest techniques to help with his or her condition. This includes our comprehensive Cochlear Implant Program for hearing restoration for both congenital and acquired hearing loss.

Ear, Nose, and Throat Conditions We Treat

From the routine to the complex, our pediatric otolaryngologists treat the following conditions:

• Congenital and acquired hearing loss
• Chronic otitis media (middle ear infection)
• Balance disorders
• Chronic problems with adnoids and tonsils
• Upper airway obstruction and sleep apnea
• Hoarseness and stridor (the noise heard on breathing when the trachea or larynx is obstructed)
• Foreign bodies of the larynx, trachea and bronchi
• Tracheotomy
• Neck masses and cervical adenopathy
• Disorders of the facial nerve
• Diseases of the paranasal sinuses, nasal obstruction and rhinorrhea (persistent nasal discharge)

Hearing Loss in Children

When your child is suffering from hearing loss, turn to UMass Memorial for complete care that assesses your child’s hearing. Hearing loss services are delivered through our Audiology Services team, which provides both inpatient and outpatient services.

The service is also approved as a high-risk infant screening center for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and is certified by the Professional Service Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
