Stroke is an Emergency!
What is a stroke?
A stroke is a “brain attack” or brain injury that happens when a blood vessel in the brain is blocked or bursts. Without blood and oxygen, parts of the brain may start to die. When this occurs, the part of the body that is controlled by the damaged area of the brain may not work correctly.
Signs of Stroke:
- BALANCE Sudden loss of balance?
- EYES Loss of vision in one or both eyes?
- FACE Face looks uneven?
- ARMS Arm or leg weak/ hanging down?
- SPEECH Speech slurred? Trouble speaking or seem confused?
Call 911 immediately if you or someone you know experiences any of these symptoms.
Two key steps you can take will lower your risk of death or disability from stroke: control stroke's risk factors and know stroke's warning signs.
