‘Everybody’s got the flu.’ Cases are spiking quickly in children, doctors say.

Flu activity in Massachusetts has officially reached high levels, and doctors at pediatric emergency departments are seeing a sharp increase in children coming in sick with influenza.

This year, it started a little more abruptly, and the number of cases we saw became much higher at a much faster rate than we’re usually seeing.

Public Announcement Concerning a Proposed Health Care Project 

UMass Memorial Health Care, Inc. (“Applicant”) located at One Biotech Park, 365 Plantation Street, Worcester, Massachusetts 01605, intends to file a Notice of Determination of Need with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for the acquisition of DoN-required Equipment of one (1) computed tomography unit for use at its proposed Satellite Emergency Facility, which will be a satellite of UMass Memorial Medical Center and will be located at 490 Main Street, Groton, 01450 (the “Project”). The total value of the Project based on the maximum capital expenditure is $2,195,943.00. The Applicant does not anticipate any material price or service impacts on the Applicant’s existing patient panel as a result of the Project. Any ten Taxpayers of Massachusetts may register in connection with the intended Application by no later than November 1, 2025, or 30 days from the filing date, whichever is later by contacting the Department of Health, Determination of Need Program, 67 Forest Street, Marlborough, MA 01752.

Public Announcement Concerning a Proposed Health Care Project

UMass Memorial Health Care Inc. (the “Applicant”) located at One Biotech Park, 365 Plantation Street, Worcester, Massachusetts 01605, intends to file a request with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for a Significant Change (the “Application”) on behalf of UMass Memorial Medical Center (UMMMC) for its licensed satellite, North Pavilion Campus located at 378 Plantation St, Worcester, MA 01605. The previously issued Determination of Need (#UMMHC-22042514-HE) approved the construction of North Pavilion Campus to include 72 new medical/surgical beds and shell space for future clinical services (the “Project”). The Project also approved the addition of 19 medical/surgical beds at UMMMC’s Memorial Campus (the “Memorial beds”). The Applicant now requests approval to build out the shell space at North Pavilion Campus to accommodate 24 additional medical/surgical beds at North Pavilion Campus in lieu of the approved construction of the 19 Memorial beds (the “Proposed Change”). As a result, the Proposed Change represents a net-new increase of five (5) medical/surgical beds at UMMMC.

The total maximum capital expenditure (MCE) of the Project was $143,242,167.00, of which $7,335,836.00 was not spent. The capital expenditure for the Proposed Change is $16,247,426.00.  Accordingly, the Proposed Change increases the MCE by $8,911,590.00 for a new total MCE of $152,153,757.00 (expressed in September 2025 dollars). The Applicant does not anticipate any price or service impacts on the Applicant’s existing patient panel as a result of the Proposed Project.

Public Announcement Concerning a Proposed Health Care Project

UMass Memorial Health Care, Inc. (“Applicant”), located at One Biotech Park, 365 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01605, intends to file a Notice of Determination of Need Application with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health with respect to a Proposed Project involving Substantial Capital Expenditures and Substantial Change in Services at UMass Memorial Medical Center’s Marlborough Cancer Center (“Hospital”), located at 157 Union Street, Marlborough, MA 01752. Pursuant to the Proposed Project, the Applicant will expand access to high-quality cancer treatment by adding proton beam therapy, a DoN-Required Service, and expanding the Hospital’s Cancer Center building to include a Proton Therapy Center. The Total Value of this Proposed Project is $59,184,749. The Applicant anticipates that the Proposed Project will not have a material increase on prices and will improve access to advanced proton beam therapy cancer services for the Applicant’s existing patient panel. Any ten Taxpayers of Massachusetts may register in connection with the intended Application by no later than April 2, 2025 or 30 days from the Filing Date, whichever is later, by contacting the Department of Public Health Determination of Need Program at DPH.DON@mass.gov or 67 Forest St, Marlborough, MA 01752.
